5 Ways to Find Peace in God's Promises

Standing in line to renew my vehicle tag I heard a man and his daughter walk into the room behind me. I didn’t turn around to look at them, but I could tell from the sound of her voice that she was a little girl, maybe 4 or 5 years of age.

She said, “daddy I love you” and he quickly responded, "I love you too baby”. It was a very sweet moment. I had already been standing there for about ten minutes when I heard them walk into the room. No more than 3 minutes later I heard the little girl say, “daddy why is this taking forever?”

The father chuckled a little and said, “girl stop, we just got here.” I laughed quietly to myself as I heard his reply. Then my thoughts turned to my own heavenly Father. I bet that’s how God feels about me.

I too keep asking, Daddy, why is this taking forever? I’ve been waiting on Your promises for what seems like a long while, longer than I had planned and some days the weight of the wait it’s overwhelming.

When the world feels like it's spinning out of control, we often look for stability in our jobs or relationships, but what do we do when those things are the very promises we are hoping to see restoration in.

Choosing to trust and depend on God takes faith and courage and His word is meant to be a steady anchor for our souls. By holding on to the promises given in scripture, we learn to face tough times with strength and clarity. Together, we'll see how faith changes our view and brings calm to our busy lives.

Key Takeaways

  • Discover how to anchor your heart in scripture.

  • Learn practical steps to reduce anxiety through daily faith practices.

  • Understand the power of biblical scripture in modern life.

  • Gain clarity by shifting your focus toward eternal hope.

  • Experience the comfort that comes from relying on God.

Trust and depend on God

The Foundation of Divine Rest

True peace starts when we know we're never alone. Our daily struggles can feel heavy. Yet, we have a divine rest that goes beyond our problems.

This rest is not just a break from our busy lives. It's a deep peace that stays with us, even when things get tough.

We find this truth by finding rest in scripture.  One verse in particular that God highlighted to me was Exodus 33:14:

"The Lord replied, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

Let’s read that again. The Lord said His Presence which is peace, calm, strength, and protection will go with you.

He said He will give you rest. What is rest? Mental and physical relaxation. Maybe like me you have found yourself striving to keep it all together. But we keep putting one foot in front of the other because honestly, we are scared to see what happens if we stop.

When the alarm clock goes off and your mind is already jumping two hours ahead into the day, but your body is having a hard time catching up, maybe God is trying to tell you to physically and spiritually rest in Him.

Slow down. Take a breath. Spend some time with God.  He will take care of you. He will provide for you. Trust it and depend on it.

Divine rest

Trust and depend on God for your daily path

We often carry heavy burdens because we try to control things we can't. When we trust and depend on God for our daily path, we let go of trying to manage everything. This surrender brings us a deep sense of divine rest that helps us through tough times.

Walking with God means we put aside our own plans. By listening for His guidance in quiet moments, we follow His perfect will. This simple act of surrender changes how we live our busy lives.

Walking with God isn't about knowing everything. It's about staying close to the One who knows everything. As we trust and depend on God, we find His path is always better than ours.

By releasing our worries, we open ourselves to His peace. Trusting Him is the best way to find peace in a world that's always changing.

Trust and depend on God

Anchor your heart in the certainty of His past faithfulness

When life gets tough, remembering God's past faithfulness helps us stay strong. Looking back, we see His grace has always been there for us. This reminds us we are never alone in our struggles.

Keeping a record of God's work in our lives gives us hope. It helps us stay hopeful when things seem scary. This way, we can face new challenges with a clear mind.

Exodus 14 reminds us that even though the enemy is going to pursue us, God is going to defeat them. When we stand firm, we will see the salvation of the Lord (Exodus 14:13-14).

In biblical times it was the Egyptians pursuing the Israelites. In our own lives it may be a mountain of bills and debt, or it may be an actual person that refuses to let you live in peace that is pursuing you.

No matter what or who is pursuing us, when we put our faith in God and are willing to be led by His word, the trouble we see today we will begin to see less of when we follow the wisdom of God's word in scripture.

God is the same today as He was yesterday. His love for us never changes, no matter what happens. God's faithfulness makes our future better than our past.

Haggai 2:9 says the later glory of this house shall be greater than our former. As believers we can pray and meditate on this scripture that our best days are yet to come.

Walking with God teaches us to trust His past actions. The times He showed up for you in the past were not just luck. They were His way of preparing you for what's next. Knowing this, we can trust He'll always be with us.

Practice the stillness of His promised presence

Finding quiet in a busy world can be difficult. Taking a break from social media and social obligations to create space for God is powerful.

Start by taking a few minutes each day to be still. Don't worry about making a list of things to ask. Just let His word calm your heart.

Quiet time helps us hear God's voice more clearly. Our worries start to fade away. This quiet time is not a waste; it's good for our soul.

As we make this a habit, we create a peaceful place inside. This place stays calm, even when life gets loud.

Meditating on the written word of God helps us to face challenges differently. We don't panic anymore. We act with confidence, knowing God is with us in every situation. Our peace comes from Him, not from what's happening around us.

Shift your focus from the obstacle to the Deliverer

The story of the Israelites at the Red Sea is very powerful. It shows us that our focus affects our peace. When they were trapped, they looked at the Egyptian army coming. They saw only a huge problem, not the One who promised to save them.

Seeking God's presence in tough times is a choice we make. We must stop worrying about our giants and focus on God, our Deliverer. By trusting in His power, we remember He can still help us today.

"Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today."

Exodus 14:13

Remembering God's past miracles gives us courage for today. Every time we look for God's presence, He always shows us the way through the storm. Trusting in His power lets us rest, knowing He's always bigger than our problems.

Speak His promises aloud to silence internal fear

Our words have a big impact. They can make us anxious or calm. When we speak the truth, we actively participate in overcoming fear.

This changes our thoughts from hopeless to hopeful. By saying scripture, we connect with our Creator. We trust in His power to help us, not just our own thoughts.

Speaking the promises of God aloud protects our heart and mind from doubts. As we say these truths, we effectively overcome fear.

By trusting in His power, we quiet the world's noise. When we consistently make this a habit it changes how we face challenges.

Deepening your reliance through consistent prayer

A consistent prayer life connects us to God's promises. It gets us into the presence of God and instead of feeling lost, we find grace. We realize during prayer that we don't have to carry the weight of our problems alone.

Prayer brings peace into our lives. Prayer reminds us of God's greater strength and daily prayer makes relying on the Lord easier.

To keep a strong consistent prayer life, try these steps:

  • Start your morning with thanks to God.

  • Use a journal to write down God's promises.

  • Find a quiet space for honest talks with God.

  • Pray throughout the day with quick, silent prayers.

Prayer changes us from the inside out. It shifts us from worry to peace. Making prayer a daily habit guards our hearts and minds. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Conclusion

Peace is not a place we get to. It's a path we can walk every day. When we rest in God's promises, our view of challenges changes.

This journey with the Lord asks us to trust in God's faithfulness. It's about leaning on Him, no matter what.

When we face fear, we can overcome it by believing God's word. We find strength to move past obstacles that seem too big. These moments show us we're never alone.
Praying every day keeps us connected to God. The more you pray, the more you'll feel God's calm presence with you.

Thanks for joining me in this reflection. Begin today by trusting in God's plan for your life. Let His peace guide you forward.

What the Bible Says About Who You Really Are: Your Identity in Christ

Our identity is our sense of self. It is shaped by many factors such as our upbringing, experiences, relationships and culture. According to the Bible, your identity is not determined by your past, your circumstances, your failures, or the opinions of other people. If you have placed your faith in Christ, Scripture teaches that you are loved, forgiven, chosen, created with purpose, and made new through Him.   If you are struggling with defining who you are as a believer, there’s an unshakable foundation you can build on—your identity in Christ. This week let’s explore how two powerful Bible verses, 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Jeremiah 1:5, illuminate this journey of self-discovery and spiritual transformation.  What Does the Bible Say About Who You Are?  The Bible tells us that our identity is ultimately found in God, not in the labels the world places on us or the painful experiences we have endured. When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we become a new creation....

From Puppy Love to Deep Faith: Growing a Stronger Relationship With Jesus

Have you ever been in love? Most people probably would have answered “yes” without hesitation a decade ago. Yet in today's world, genuine connection can sometimes feel harder to find. Relationships require time, vulnerability, commitment, and a willingness to move beyond the surface. The first stage of many relationships is what we often call “puppy love.” We usually associate puppy love with tweens and teenagers, but infatuation can happen at any age. It is that exciting stage when everything feels new. You are captivated by the person, excited about the possibilities, and perhaps even imagining a future together before you truly know them. But what happens when we experience that same kind of excitement in our relationship with Jesus? Can we fall in love with the idea of Jesus without developing a deep relationship with Him? That question made me reflect on my own relationship with Christ and how my faith has grown over the years. I realized that there is a difference between b...

7 Biblical Ways to Keep Going When Life Is Difficult

Life can throw some pretty tough challenges our way, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or ready to give up. Unemployment in certain areas is rising. The number of people unhoused continues to increase and it seems like inflation is impacting every socioeconomic group. But the Bible offers timeless wisdom and encouragement to help us keep moving forward, even when the road gets rocky. If you’re searching for strength, hope, and practical ways to persevere during difficult times, these seven biblical principles can guide and uplift you. Let’s explore these powerful ways to keep going when life feels heavy.  1. Trust in God’s Promises One of the most comforting truths in the Bible is that God is faithful and His promises never fail. When life is uncertain, holding onto verses like Isaiah 41:10 (“Do not fear, for I am with you...”) reminds us we are never alone. Trusting in His Word means believing God will provide strength and peace even when we can’t see the outcome. Matthew ...
